Nokia 6101: Intriguing fold camera phone offers new options to operators

Cannes, France – At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today expanded its portfolio of folding mobile phones with the stylish Nokia 6101 camera phone. In addition to offering consumers the latest mobile technology in an elegant fold concept, the Nokia 6101 provides operators with an extended range of customization features. The compact, triband phone will be available in two versions: a GSM 900/1800/1900 version primarily for Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Asian markets, and a GSM 850/1800/1900 model targeted towards the Americas. With an estimated retail price of less than 250 EUR, excluding taxes and subsidies, the Nokia 6101 is expected to start shipping in the second quarter of 2005.
“The Nokia 6101 is an intuitive, easy-to-use fold phone with a compelling feature set. Its classic, sophisticated design nicely blends in with all situations during a busy day,” says Kai Öistämö, Senior Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia. “For operators the Nokia 6101 offers broad customization options, including their own branded menu icons, services access as well as customized wallpapers and wake-up graphics.”
Consumers will appreciate the features of the Nokia 6101 such as its easy-to-use menu structure. The built-in VGA camera with a dedicated button takes colorful videos and pictures that can be shared via MMS or uploaded to an online photo album or printing service. Featuring two bright color displays, the Nokia 6101 can be personalized with animated wallpapers and screensavers. The external color display shows incoming calls, time and date while the internal screen displays favorite images or a busy social calendar.
The Nokia 6101 camera phone also introduces a new feature, Nokia Xpress audio messaging, which enables users to record and send a voice message to others over the GPRS network. With the touch of a few buttons, consumers can send their audio message — a holiday greeting, personal congratulations or even a special moment like a grandchild’s first words — and share it with others via Nokia Xpress audio messaging. Once a message has been received, it can be stored in the phone and played when desired.
Nokia Xpress audio messaging nicely complements the Nokia 6101’s push to talk technology, which allows users to connect to others — be it a group or an individual — over GPRS, similar to using a walkie-talkie. Several operators worldwide have introduced push to talk services for consumers.
Also unveiled for the first time, the Nokia Display Headset HS-6 shows caller and music information directly on its screen. Sold separately, the Nokia Display Headset enables users to control calls and remotely operate the FM radio of the Nokia 6101.
