The was after original Nokia 9000 Communicator (announce March 1996) an upfrade called Nokia 9000i Communicator (improved software). In papralel there was development to make Nokia 9000 communicator to work in USA networks. It was announced as Nokia 9000il (or 9000iL) It had USA mobile networks radio frecuencies and that ment the antenna was longer than in European models. But also it had a new feature. The letter L means, it had display back Light. First in Nokia Communicator line.
