Nokia introduced today the Nokia 1100 phone, designed for new mobile phone users. This affordable, reliable, and easy-to-use phone offers convenient voice and messaging features. The phone is intended for emerging markets in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, including Russia, India, and China, and is expected to be available for sale in the last quarter of the year. The Nokia 1100 phone, unveiled simultaneously in Moscow and New Delhi, operates on GSM 900/1800 networks.
“As part of our strategy, we aim to expand the wireless communication market and bring the benefits of wireless technology to new markets. Nokia is committed to developing reliable, easy-to-use, and affordable products for new mobile phone users, and the Nokia 1100 phone is a prime example of this. Like other Nokia products, the Nokia 1100 phone offers comprehensive features, modern design, and the renowned Nokia quality and reliability,” said Bengt-Åke Gyllenberg, Head of Mobile Entry Products at Nokia Mobile Phones.
The compact Nokia 1100 phone, weighing only 93 grams, easily fits in a pocket or handbag. Its sides are made of non-slip materials to ensure a secure grip and protect the phone from dust and rain. The phone features a high-resolution 96×65 pixel monochrome display that can display up to four lines of text, depending on the selected font size. The user-friendly keypad has large buttons, a two-way navigation key, and a NaviTM key. The Nokia 1100 phone also includes a stopwatch and alarm clock, flashlight, vibration alert, and two built-in games. With its long-lasting battery, the phone offers talk time ranging from two to four and a half hours and standby time of up to 400 hours.
The phone’s messaging features are quick and easy to use, thanks to predictive text input and shortcut options. Users can create distribution lists to send the same message to multiple recipients simultaneously.
The Nokia 1100 phone also offers versatile personalization options. Users can customize their phones with interchangeable Xpress-on(TM) color covers, ringtones, wallpapers, and picture messages.
The Nokia 1100 phone supports Advanced Multirate* (AMR) speech codec, allowing operators to offer high-quality voice services cost-effectively. AMR is one of four speech codecs developed for GSM technology, combining the benefits of Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) and Half Rate (HR) codecs, improving both voice quality and network capacity for call transmission. Nokia collaborates with operators in key emerging markets to provide profitable and cost-effective solutions for voice and messaging services.
