ESPOO – Today, Nokia announces its new Nokia 500 smartphone. This new device features a 1GHz processor, the Symbian Anna operating system, and interchangeable back covers. The Nokia 500 is a compact and high-performance device that can be easily customized to one’s liking – and it’s available at an affordable price.
If you are looking for an inexpensive yet feature-rich smartphone, the Nokia 500 is the device for you. As seen in the pictures, it is a touchscreen phone. The device has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. Additionally, the phone features a five-megapixel camera capable of video recording, perfect for capturing holiday trips and parties.
The Nokia 500 smartphone runs on the latest version of the Symbian Anna operating system, which includes an updated interface, an improved browser, and a split-screen display for messaging. As expected, the phone comes pre-installed with the latest version of Nokia Maps for free driving and walking navigation. More applications can be downloaded from the Ovi Store. In addition to a music player, the phone has an FM radio and internet radio, allowing you to listen to your preferred music and news from all around the world. Following social media is effortless, with friends’ status updates appearing directly on the phone’s screen.
Under the hood, the 1GHz processor provides ample power for using multiple applications or performing particularly demanding tasks. The device has 2 gigabytes of memory, expandable up to 32 gigabytes with a memory card. Like other recent smartphones, the Nokia 500 features a pentaband antenna, and its 3G data transfer reaches up to HSUPA speeds (maximum speed nowadays up to 5.8 Mbit/s). The phone also supports Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi b/g connections. The dimensions of the device are 111.3 x 53.8 x 14.1 mm, and it weighs only 93 grams – lighter than any previous Symbian^3 phone.
Despite the phone’s newer, faster processor, the battery delivers quite an impressive performance. It offers 5-7 hours of talk time, over 450 hours of standby time, and up to 35 hours of music playback time, which is great if you are a heavy music consumer.
The Nokia 500 is available in black and white, with black coming to market first and white later in the year. The package also includes three different colored back covers. More color options will be available in stores soon, including at least purple, sky blue, pink, coral red, orange, and dark silver. Following the popularity of the pink Nokia N8 and N9, the pink Nokia 500 is expected to be a hit as well.
The estimated retail price of the Nokia 500, excluding taxes, is just 150 euros, and it will be available for sale in the third quarter of this year.
